A sky study built at full scale: sculptural cumulus clouds worked in champagne gold, brushed brass, and ivory, with soft dove-gray in the shadow undersides. The gray isn't a compromise on the gold — it's what makes the gold read as real light rather than a flat colour choice, so the piece holds its own in both warm and cool-toned rooms.
Representational structure, expressive surface: accurate light and volume in the cloud forms, with loose edges, palette-knife texture, and scraped-back layers. From across a great room it reads as a glowing, believable sky. Up close it dissolves into abstract texture — a piece built to reward a second look, and a third.
Look closely along the lower clouds and you'll find a wing, suggested rather than drawn — one of the quiet, non-literal forms worked into the piece to be discovered, not announced.
The canvas wraps continuously over the panel edge rather than sitting inside stretcher bars, so the painted surface carries around the front with no visible frame — a floating, sculptural object built for a foyer or stairwell wall with nothing else competing for attention.
